OTDR Launch Cables: An Essential Tool For Testing Any Fiber Network
amitp@graycelltech.com2024-09-24T16:54:25+00:00Megladon’s Fiber Optic OTDR Launch Cable Box is the ideal companion for OTDR testing, and it offers the highest performing launch cables available. They are manufactured using only the highest quality, precision components. We apply our patented HLC laser termination process to every connector, creating the best possible optical performance (IL/ORL). The extended durability of the HLC endfaces allows for uninterrupted testing over longer periods, allowing for reduced testing expense over time. HLC Launch Cables are available for UPC and APC connector types (SC, LC, ST, FC) in all major glass core sizes. Megladon makes a variety of lengths to support both premise and long haul testing applications.
Megladon specializes in the design and construction of test reference cords and cables designed to optimize the performance of test equipment. To conduct a reliable OTDR test on your fiber network, you must first eliminate the “Dead Zone,” which prevents you from receiving an accurate measurement. Launch packs, also known as pulse suppressors, remove the Dead Zone by allowing the pulse of light to settle before traveling down a fiber cable. We recommend using two launch packs per test to capture more precise measurements on the far end connections of your fiber under test. When a receive cable is placed at the far end of the run, it acts as a monument that can help to accurately measure overall length as well as loss at the final connector of the run. This means that by running two tests on the same optical fiber, users can easily average out any mode field mismatch between the test cords and cabling. Simply attach a launch pack at either end of the cable under test to better identify faults within your network!
